Uganda – Part 2

After attending the morning church services on campus, we visited my Ugandan coworker’s new house that he is building. After that he took me to his uncle’s house and then to the Cultural Arts Center in Kampala where we ate dinner and watched dances from all around Uganda.

In October, I went to Uganda with work. My main responsibility was to interview people and get footage for a profile video about our ministry there. I also got some footage for personal use. This video starts off that series.

When we arrived, the first order of business was the dedication ceremony of the new Words of Hope Uganda recording studio. We stayed on the campus of Uganda Christian University. Outside the guesthouse, there were a number of new and interesting animals such as lizards, horn-bills, and monkeys!

We did a lot in one day when we were in Cappadocia. We rented a car and drove around to see the scenery and then we went to a giant ancient underground city. We finished off the day with a stop by the city of Avanos which is famous for it’s pottery.

The Goreme Open Air Museum is one of the most amazing places on the planet. The rock formations are amazing but what’s more impressive is the homes and churches carved inside the rocks. The churches were originally decorated with red ochre then the frescoes were added but later defaced by invading Arabs in the 6th century.

After a long day in a bus, we arrived in the valley town of Kayakoy. Up on the hill sits a Greek ghost town abandoned in the 20’s. This video is our visit there.

We took a day trip to the calcium cliffs of Pamukkale (which means “Cotton Castle”). Ancient Greeks came to Pamukkale to enjoy the hot springs and use it as a spa. It is a UNESCO world heritage site and is one of the most surreal places we visited on our trip.

Even though it was around 95 degrees, we still went out to see the ancient city of Ephesus. The Celcus Library is one of the most ornate ancient structures we saw. This video also features a little bit of our carpet shopping experience and some shots of the storks that were right outside our hotel room window.

Leaving Bergama, we arrive in the city of Selcuk, the larger city where tourists stay when they want to visit nearby Ephesus. We visit the huge weekend market and the Basilica of St. John which was just across the street from our hotel.

Our next stop is the ancient city of Pergamon. It was the location of one of the Seven Churches of Revelation as well as the birthplace of modern medicine. The ruins perch high on a mountain overlooking the city of Bergama and contain the most amazing theatre we saw as well as one of the most complete temples.

In this video we explore the ancient City of Assos/Behramkale and the Temple of Athena. Assos was a stop for the Apostle paul on his third missionary journey as well as the place we had our first encounter with oriental hornets!
