Berchtesgaden

I went back to my favorite place in Germany but this time I took Sara with me. Berchtesgaden is an alpine paradise, the location of Hitler’s “eagles nest” and home to the most beautiful lake in the world.

Booze and Mozart Balls, Salzburg

Salzburg is a great place to enjoy some great treats. Mozartkugeln are very popular in Salzburg but I think I enjoyed the spirits the most!

Melk Abbey, Biking the Danube

Melk is a great little town along the Danube. We stayed there for one night. The area is known for 2 things: the Melk Abbey and Grüner Veltliner – a white wine that is now one of our favorites!

Cesky Krumlov – Marionette Museum

The Czech Republic is known for it’s marionette shows. Český Krumlov has a great little marionette museum featuring many different styles of marionettes and a shop as well. This is just a sampling of some of the marionettes in the museum.

Cesky Krumlov – Street Music

“De Fanfare van de Eerste Liefdesnacht” is the colorful band featured in this video. They filled the winding streets of Český Krumlov with music that made me run out of our room and get a closer listen.

They are amazing performers and put on a great show!

Prague – The Cheese Sandwich

We made sure to watch all our favorite travel channel shows episodes about Prague before we left. After watching Anthony Bourdain’s episode, there was one thing that stuck out to me: the fried cheese sandwich.

Kutna Hora – St. Barbara Church

One of the main reasons we took a day trip to Kutna Hora was to see the beautiful St. Barbara Church. St. Barbara is the Patron saint of miners, and since Kutna Hora was the center of silver mining in Bohemia, this church was not lacking in its construction budget. It sits on the hillside and has fantastic flying buttresses. The interior was very peaceful and even had some very old frescoes featuring people taking part in the daily mining activities. It is one of my favorite churches I have visited in Europe.
