Honestly… I never even noticed! :) Now how long did that take to go through and find all those “so’s”. I can only imagine!

  2. Casey says:

That’s hilarious! I have the exact same problem. On one episode of Kitkast I was taking a tour of an art gallery/sex education studio and after every cut I would say “So tell me about…”. It was embarrassing to edit…

  3. Clintus says:

omg dude I’m the same way! Seriously I say um and so all the time. I even start my written blogs off with so. That’s too funny.

  4. wow. I quit. You’re the master.

  5. missb says:

SO Hilarious! And so very true. I am also guilty of these “vocalized pauses”…I never knew they had a name!

(and really, I never noticed until you fiancee mentioned it in your proposal video!)

  6. nniiccoollee says:

So, um, you’re like – not the only one. :0) We had a speech class in which we had to videotape and critique ourselves afterward and it’s surprising how many times you can sneak in like, um, so, etc. At least the content of your videos consistently overshadows any small pauses. :0)

  7. Adam Navis says:

    Made me smile.

  8. Mark Alberto says:

So… this is my personal opinion: I can understand why those verbal afflictions can be a problem in english essays or term papers and such. I just don’t see why it would be a problem with video-blogging. I mean, sure it could get annoying. To be honest, I don’t really notice your “overuse” of any particular words.

To be short, I believe not only do those things add personality and character, they also make you human. That is why your vlog has got awards.

  9. Levois says:

I’m pretty much a new viewer as of maybe 6 months ago so I can’t say that in all the videos I’ve seen you in that I’ve noticed. :)

  10. chuck says:

ha! i hadn’t really noticed either.
but i SURE notice it when i’m editing other people in front of the camera.

  11. Philippe says:

I think your bigger problem is someone stole all the pictures from your picture frames behind you! OMG, you have been robbed.

  12. Norm says:

I hadn’t noticed… until now! Hopefully I can watch more videos without watching for the ‘so’s and ‘um’s. :)

  13. Hans Xiong says:

Soooooooo… you are really a cool guy

  14. Clintus says:

haha I had to watch this one again. I love it. Perhaps I will do one like this as part of an homage to you.

  15. TheFemGeek says:

You’re doing such a good job all I can say is SO WHAT? Keep up the good work.

  16. I believe some college kids actually have a drinking game based on which vocalised pause you use.

I once lost a whole Friday night after doing shots while watching one of your posts!

  17. Heath says:

It looks like everyone else said what I wanted to say, with much better wit and fanfare, so……funny vid. It looks like you are having a lot of fun this week, very creative video’s. It looks like you put a lot of thought in what you wanted each day to be. Maybe someday I will stop flying by the seat of my pants and actually prepare video’s….probably not….

  18. Eddie says:

Hey its comes across like a part of your personality… it adds character.
Sometimes its hard not to do that when the person you are talking to is not in front of you. I learned from doing FM radio. I had to get my friend to stop it.

Its not so bad… its not like a bad stutter.

  19. rachael g. says:

    yay – loved it.

  20. Rupert says:

I had noticed, after your proposal video when you were told not to say it :) but I think it’s a good thing. I am always amazed at how articulate you are, and this is part of that – helps you keep it conversational, I reckon. Save the So!

  21. tim says:

thank you for putting it to gether.

  22. Isai says:

Idea: Try reading a few books aloud. You’ll hear yourself speaking differently and might slowly begin using less of those lil “um”s and “so”s. Good luck!
