Oh Joshy, how can ya not love sports? Though I do agree with previous comments, GR is not exactly the sports Mecca of the Midwest. I would contend that sports fans beget sports fans. From what I understand, neither of your parents were big on sports when you were a kid, hence you did not grow up to the sounds of the baseball/football/basketball game in the background. I adore sports. Well, baseball and football at least. Go Sox.

Sports and religion are one in the same, both feed the ego. Religion offers insurance that the ego will live on forever. Winning protects us in similar fashion. Religions and sports have been known to promote violent nonthinking. I am a fan of neither.

Don't base your view of sports on a GR Griffins game (boring, sub-par athletes).....for a real sport experience go to a Michigan football game. 110,000 people shouting, cheering, and just plain going nuts!! You can't help but feel the excitment and energy.

Also, professional sports are about seeing and enjoying the athletic ability of a certain few. The grace and athleticism of Michael Jordan was a wonder to behold.

Sports in general are about getting out of the house, getting exercise, enjoying nature, and if playing with others, enjoying friendship and camaraderie.

I have to agree with Nate & Rachel - GR is not the best venue for sports. A White Caps game may be a semi-enjoyable way to spend some time on a summer evening - outside, with a hotdog, blah, blah, blah, - but it is certainly nothing compared to a REAL baseball game. I hate hockey, but I suspect the same would be true for the Griffins vs. the Red Wings. You need to come to a White Sox vs. Cubs game - it is impossible to not get passionate about something at those games. Impossible to not enjoy yourself or get caught up in the excitement and energy around you. I'd love to watch your video of that:) Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Why do you vlog Josh? Do you feel part of a bigger community when you do? Is it an outlet for your passion? Have you met new people and learned somthing about yourself? Sports do that as well....when done right, it teachs the value of teamwork, of each person doing one part of a function for a greater good. Much how my time in the service taught me the value of working together on a team....lives depended on us 3 guys doing our job, so you don't have the time to be petty at that moment....Sports are a metaphor for us as a society in some ways, yes it is just a game at the end of the day, but what you learn in the process can help you become a better person. like anything else in life it is what you put into it what you get out of it..

Yes, take in a real event at a real venue - like a NFL game or a NCAA Big Ten Football game.

GR Griff's game's are VERY boring. Look at all the empty seats there.

I'll agree with what some other people have said...I, too, think that it is more fun to play than watch. And I enjoy watching a sport that I understand and have played. It does weird me out that people get so crazed about it all though. But then again, we all have our own things that we go crazy for and yet lots of people would be like "wtf?" Videoblogging, for example.

And it does make me mad that a lot of the players get paid so much, while other people who work much harder for what seem to be more worthy causes get paid diddly-squat.

That t-shirt cannon thing was awesome though. I think I like going to sports stuff for that kind of junk. I love seeing all the crazy sponsor stuff and all the weird little chants and traditions...it's like "oh man, what's the the remote control blimp gonna drop this time? Ooooo boy!" Love it!

Anyway, great video and I enjoyed your commentary!

Josh,

Your videos are always quite entertaining! I really love the look on your face at the hockey rink where it clear that you really don't follow the game. I run in to the same feeling when I have to attend sporting events with clients. I've learned to just nod and smile as "IF" I get it. Oh and Of course I stand and clap when they do , etc.

Keep up the great work.

I don't like sports either.... they just seem... pointless. I can't wait until part 2 and 3! Are you going to play sports or something in one of them?

I'm right there with you. I don't dislike sports, but I don't really "Get" why people get so riled up about them I mean, seriously: It's a GAME! The players don't even really necessarily play for their hometowns! Why get so excited about it? If your teams wins, you get NOTHING! Well, I guess you get the satisfaction of knowing that the players on your favorite team earn millions of dollars for throwing/catching/bouncing a ball !! Yippee!! Hmm...well I guess those local hockey players aren't making millions.

Live sports are way more engaging to watch that TV, though, that's for sure.

And there's always beer. Beer really, really helps. I bed if you had invested in $13.75 worth of beer you would have had a very different experience!

Maybe David Howell is willing to school you in the finer points of becoming more of a hockey-loving renaissance man! Maybe he can teach us all!! Wouldn't that be so cool!
