Genetically modified corn (which is _big_ in modern industrial agri-business these days) is a busy plant. Besides just growing and producing offspring, corn now produces its own pesticides, kill butterflies and are quite the marvel of genetic engineering... yummmmmm. I hate to break it to you, but corn isn’t just corn anymore.
