Hot dog! You must’ve been full. Thanks for the recap. Now, I know where to get my hotdogs if I ever visit your area.

  2. Erin says:

Your videos are looking more and more professional all the time! This one reminds me of a show on the Food Network called Food Finds. Really great post! Good editing, closeups of the dogs, the restaurant signs etc… awesome!! :)

  3. bottomunion says:

4 loaded hot dogs in one afternoon
for a skinny kid like yourself is pretty impressive.
This is definitely a video I would’ve loved to
    be involved with…Hot-Dog-Hopping.

  4. Markus Sandy says:

Excellent post Josh. I’m constantly on the look out for a good dog (any pizza too!). Now I know where to go in Grand Rapids for sure. Oh no! Now all your firends will visit and want you to take them out for even more hot dogs!

I really like the shots from the last place you visited (Yesterdog); great indoor lighting. What kind of camera are you using these days?

    Very enjoyable.

  5. Markus Sandy says:

Wait a minute!!! You’ve got Josh Leo’s Pick’s for Vlogs, right?

How about a new vlog called Josh Leo’s Hot Dog Picks! A lifetime of hot dog videos from around the world.

I forget, did you catch any “frankfurter” action in germany?

Vloggercon should provide some good ones in NYC.

  6. Glenn Reyn says:

Nice vid of GR flava. I’m a big fan of the ol’ Yesterdog myself. Very impressive hot dog stamina. That was like a workout. Nice editing on that segment too. I’ll be back to visit your blog again sometime.

  7. JuanFalla says:

    Jajajajaaaaa…

I’m not a fan of lots of toppings in hot dogs, but now I now what’s a agood combination of toppings to have in a hot dog. Oh, and the secret ingredient: messy!

In what time frame did you have those 4 hot dogs?

  8. missbhavens says:

I had no idea there were so many wiener choices in GR! I also had no idea people put so much stuff on their hot dogs. I never thought of hot dogs as a vehicle for anything besides mustard and stewed onions. It’s the NYC way!

    Now I’m hungry.

  9. Tim says:

There’s nothing better than a messy dog, that’s fer sure.

  10. chris weagel says:

you seem unfamiliar with coney islands.

    this cannot be.

they are everywhere on this side of MI.

    ALSO

V once did a high-caliber school report on hot dogs.

  11. kim says:

Yesterdog’s would have gotten my vote also! Aaahh, the memories. Many late nights/early mornings spent in that place.

Being from Chicago, you should have recognized the “electric green” relish as being a signature of Chicago-style dogs.

  12. Chuck Olsen says:

    you crazy drunk college kid!
    KIDDING

you make-a me hungry for a good hot dog.

  13. Cuoredifango says:

this is an interesting vlog, a great information for my next us travel

    Fantastic video, Josh. :)

  15. Matt says:

That last comment was from me; don’t know what went wrong there. Again, excellent video, Josh.

  16. Matthew J says:

There are two other places I like to get dogs, but they aren’t in GR. First is a hot dog stand next to the Coral Gables restaraunt in Saugatuck. The other is a famous dog shack in Rockford. The Corner Bar. They have an on-going eating contest. You get your picture on the wall if you eat a lot. Check them out for part two, yeah? Cheers.

  17. Scott Walker says:

I was thinking exactly what Erin was thinking. You might get on with the Food Network if all else fails ;)

Also, if you ever come to Atlanta, be sure to visit THE VARSITY! Especially if you need a GOOD colon cleanser :)

  18. Nice hair cut! Any one from GR could have told you the best dogs come from Yesterdog. Plus it is such a cool place. Everyone should go there some time in their life!!!

  19. Blu Crystal says:

Hey man you make me wanna go get a dog!! :D

  20. Sweet piece Josh. I’m kind of a Coney Island style
dog fan, but that last one did look tasty.

  21. Josh,
The thing happened today, a friend hooked me up with the Josh Rouse album Nashville…the first song I listened was Carolina…I was suddenly bamboozled…I was not in front of my computer, or iPod, I was driving…

  22. escorial says:

I haven’t had breakfast yet and my mouth is watering!!!
    Hol down a sec…. I am vegetarian.
Vegetarian but not blind. Thos e babies look all goooood to me.

    Nice work

    Hey Josh…

I just watched a clip from some Motion Graphics Chicago conference, encouraging people to videoblog. It featured a snappy little video about how “we are the media” and how this is a revolution. And maybe it is…

I’m concerned though, because there were very few people of color, certainly no black folks, in that video? I wonder if your revolution is just affluent and mostly white?

I would PM you, but I couldn’t find any contact on your blog.

  24. Josh, I don’t even LIKE hotdogs & I’m craving a Yesterdog. The footage of the fully loaded dogs veiled in steam was just beautiful. Hope all’s well with you & you’ll be home in Chicago for Christmas and a real Chi-town dog.

  25. Yesterdog! Been there! One of my favorite areas of GR. But it’s been years

  26. Great vlog man! For those interested in, I’ve just written a post about vlogging.

  27. Robert says:

    Must… Eat… Hotdog… :-)

  28. Roger says:

oh man I remember Yesterdog. That place was so dang good. I need to come to GR to visit you and get some dogs. P.S. you could do a comparison of some of the dogs in the chicagoland area and see how they compare with yesterdog.

  29. Joan Khoo says:

The things we do for our craft. :)
    Two thumbs up.

  30. You seem to be on the road a lot. I was thinking it would save on gas if you could vlog multiple chronicles (if you haven’t done it already). Say have a hotdog in Bavaria saved on footage, then go see a winery, and then someplace else. Keep it real. I enjoyed the installment on hiking and Thanksgiving by the way. Happy New Year.

  31. Richard says:

the problem is that I’m in the fifteenth gruiling hour of my annual new years eve resolution to not eat hot dogs, and now I’m doomed … must eat hot dog!

  32. TaulPaul says:

I almost thought that you were going to say: “Yesterdog was the Big Weiner!”

    Oh well, next time.

  33. Michael Tyas says:

Canada has next to no hotdog culture, other than the weenie at the campfire or backyard barbeque.

When I was living in Los Angeles, I was really blown away when I saw hot dog franchises advertising on the television and billboards.

It never occurred to me that it could be a popular fast food.

  34. Benoit says:

I just discovered this vlog and it is awesome! One of my favorites. I should start my own one of these days.
Anyway, I just had a question regarding hot-dogs and your hometown Chicago. What is the best hot-dog place in Chicago? I am going to the windy city next month and your video made me hungry. I am French and there are NO good hotdogs over here in France, none!

  35. Anonymous says:

heard about you on NPR today. Just wanted to congratulate you on all of your success with the vlog. Oh, and way to represent for Grand Rapdis!!!!!!!

  36. Mike says:

Josh, while I’ll don’t agree with your #1 rating, I was still very impressed with your work and attention to detail. Having lived in Chicago and GR, I feel we have similar backgrounds. I’d rate as follows:
    1. The Grand Coney (Perfect Detroit Style Coney)
    2. Chicago’s Deep Dish & Dogs (all the right toppings, just need more. Pile it on!)
    3. Yesterdog (Ax the Ketchup!)
Dog Pit I haven’t been there yet but am eager to check it out.
