The Mango is my favorite fruit. But there is a special trick to get the full enjoyment of the mango! Here is a video showing how to cut a Mango, the Josh Leo way.
That’s the way I’ve been cutting mangoes for years. A friend showed me a different way, but it was more tricky and didn’t have the “parlor trick” appeal. I salivate just thinking about mangoes.
You did such a good job that I could smell and taste them. YUM! But, I did worry about your finger tips a little bit. You need to curl them under to avoid any shavings in the future.
I usually just eat them off the skin instead of putting them into a bowl. You get more flavour that way! Plus, it saves you from having to wash the bowl!
I’m SO glad you did that! I just discovered Mangoes this summer (no idea what took me so long) and I always make a slimy, slicey mess of it and lose mucho mango in the process.
Oh please, don’t tell me Blog/Vlog comment boxes are the new way for spammers to spread their virus….
Anyway, Josh, great video. I love videos that show how to do stuff, and I love mangoes and you did a great job. I’m going to apply this method next time. I have been using a mother-in-law taught method which involved using a potato peeler to peel the mango first, then to the criss/cross square cutting down to the pit, then slice down right next to the pit and it releases all the squares into the bowl, but I think your method is cleaner, at least for a less ripe mango. I think if the mango is over ripe, too soft, the other method may be better.
Also, here’s a recipe for Mango Sticky Rice, which is a great thing to do with the mango squares! You can find sticky (glutenous) rice at most asian food markets:
i’ve been slicing my fingers off all summer because i couldnt cut a damn mango. you have taught me well leo.
no more bloody fruit salad, jay will be so pleased.
oh boy - josh i love the video, but the sight of that knife cutting towards your hand…you know i used to work in kitchens and I did what you do all the time until the one day when my knife went through a soft spot and through my hand. please be careful!!
lol..we have a lot mangoes here in P.I. and we actually have a mango tree. I haven’t eaten mango in like a year or something but you made it look so yummy.good one

I usually just stick a fork in it and peel it. But that’s a nice way to cut them…my wife does it that way.

That’s brilliant!! In south america though, the eat them WITH the skin, and with salt. And not as ripe.
Josh, Neat video post. I have my own way of slicing mangos and you inspired me to do a post on it. You can see it at orangeyou.blogspot.com
