Music Across the Miles

Posted on Thursday 5 May 2005

Phil Hamilton lives Near Boston in Massachussets, I live in Grand Rapids Michigan. When I saw that he played mandolin, I immediatley wanted to somehow collaborate musically. Well, we did more than that, and added video into the picture. This is is the result of our efforts, it is not perfect, but fun none the less. (For all of you who were wondering, that is a Mountain Dulcimer that I am playing.)

Cool dude. I’m adding some guitar tracks and I’ll let you know when it’s done. It’s an incentive for me to actually get around to figuring out the video in video thing.

Boy, I remember trying to do this ages ago wtih CuSeeMe and a b&w quickcam. The sync was terrible back then…looks like it works much better now! Did you use iChat to do this?

Wow, I’m speechless this is amazing. I’d like to take this one step further and use the song as a back drop to my next v-log. I’ve sent both of you emails.

Hey that was awesome. I’ve been wanting to do something similar for years, but I can’t play any instruments or sing :-(

This is the future of music. Bands like Delerium have been doing this for at least 5 years now (assembling their music without ever meeting in person).

Love it. It would be interesting to hear what your process was for making this piece, just in case other folks want to try vlog music performance collaborations, but don’t know how to go about it.
